A Message from the CEO: Terri Mottershead to Conclude Role as Executive Director of the Centre for Legal Innovation

Since launching in 2016, the Centre for Legal Innovation (CLI) has become an important voice in the legal sector, both here and internationally - focused on innovation, emerging technologies and the future of legal work.

I want to share with you that Terri Mottershead, the Centre’s founding Executive Director, will be concluding her time in the role to pursue new opportunities.

Terri has shaped CLI from the ground up. Her leadership and commitment to change in the legal profession have made CLI what it is today – a hub for new ideas, collaboration and practical insight that has helped many legal professionals navigate change with confidence.

Through programs such as the Generative AI Initiative, the Legalpreneurs Lab, and the Legalpreneurs Sandbox podcast, Terri has helped bring people together across the profession to think differently about how we work and where we’re heading.

Her contribution has been recognised around the world, including most recently by the International Legal Technology Association, who named her as one of just five women globally on their 2024 Influential Women in Legal Tech list - recognising both her impact and her mentorship.

On behalf of the College, I want to thank Terri for everything she’s done - for the College, for CLI and for the broader profession. We wish her all the best for what comes next.

We’ve started a search for a new Executive Director to lead CLI into its next chapter. We’ll confirm interim arrangements shortly. In the meantime, I’ll be working closely with the CLI Advisory Board to support the Centre’s work and maintain momentum on the great work already underway.
